Doing God's Work Without Serving
God
The greatest among you will be your
servant. (Matthew 23:11)
Did you know that there are plenty of people in the vineyard
doing God's work, but they do not serve God? That might seem hard to
believe, but a person can do God's work but not be a servant of
God.
Jehu, one of the kings of Israel, had a lot of zeal for God, but he
did not serve God. In other words, he was an instrument for carrying
out justice, but he did not become God's servant. Jehu gave lip
service to God while permitting the worship of golden calves. (2
Kings 10:16) A true servant of God follows ALL of God's commands.
We need to check the condition of our own heart. Are we working in
the kingdom doing busy work yet we are not servants of God?
A foolproof way to know if a person is just doing busy work or
working as a servant is to find out his motive. If he is doing it for
personal gain, than he doesn't have a servant's heart. If he is doing
it to please others, then he is not a servant. A servant always keeps
Jesus in mind as he works. He works as if Jesus were his
supervisor.
Are you just an instrument of God's work or are you God's
servant?
